MetroMan’s Debut Prive Collection “OGHOGHO” which means JOY. In Ancient Bini, a dialect hailing from the Former Benin Empire, which is now the modern Edo State in Nigeria. Ipso facto, this collection is centred around, and was created with Joy. A minimalist tone embodies the cut, choice of fabric and colour pallette of this collection in a true expression of what is deemed to represent the Homo Jubiláte (the joyful man.) The unique pieces exuding Afro-Modernity in Classic Style, which is manifested as an earthy palette of white, cream, sky blue, green and black colour-blocks, broken up with bold colour flashes of ocean green, burgundy and lime yellow.
Playing with both Traditional Oriental and Modern African cuts, producing uncomplicated forms which perfectly marry to create the perfect lovechild, that is, easy to wear with a dash of tactile tailoring. Here the devil is in the detail, understated detailing is pared down to reveal the beautiful clean finish of the pieces making the look both flattering but exceedingly functional. Although the occasional pleat, pyjama stitching or perforated lace fabric perfectly compliments the simple silhouettes adding to their distinctive male sex appeal.
This resort collection is inspired by the ability to enjoy the richness of life and it’s experiences, and this plays a major part in the editorial shot in honour of the collection, Man and his relationship with Nature. We chose the serenity of the beach and the abundant foliage of a grass-field. This is the reason we worked with mostly natural linen fabric, lace and some silk-blend fabrics to embody the simplicity yet understated luxuriance that Mother Nature brings. Thus showing the interplay between Man and his understanding of the Dualistic aspects within his own Nature and his return back into his element.
This collection is flooded with cohesive co-ordinate sets which symbolize the Union of these dual aspects bringing forth effortless pieces that will easily transcend both time and season. Asymmetrical over-shirts and light jackets demonstrate the complex yet muted tailoring which plays a star role throughout the collection. The tailoring also enhances the male physique whilst exaggerating areas such as the shoulders and hips and set against strong long-lean legs. Shapes inspired by the Beauty of Nature showcasing an understated allure.
The collection focuses around a smart yet wearable look with pieces that will compliment any metropolitan man’s wardrobe. The linen trousers can be paired with anything from classic blazers and jackets to the distinctive shirts and T-shirts. The playful “EFEHI” linen short co-ordinate set is an essential investment for your next getaway destination. Whilst the “IYENGUMWENA” and “ENADEGHE” Yukata-style safari-suit sets in their unconventional earthy tones give a mature edge to the collection.

We’re very proud of our Edo roots as in the Edo Culture, there is the belief that the name of a child will be what speaks for them first in their lifetime, so much attention is centred around naming as it comes with its own ceremony and celebration in tow. Thus, all the pieces were given traditional Bini names which are strong affirmations to speak into our existence a joyful reality i.e “OMAGBON” (meaning the goodness of life) and “IREDIA” (meaning I am here to stay).
At the end of each naming ceremony when each guest attended has given a name to the newborn, they will all chorus:
“Ogha gue dia. Ise”
And the “OGHOGHO” begins.
